Sophomore transfer Jared Verse has been phenomenal for the Seminoles this year.

Verse came to Florida State after spending 2 seasons with the Albany Great Danes of the FCS. Verse dominated FCS competition, collecting 74 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks over 15 games.

The transition to the FBS has not slowed Verse down. The pass-rusher is tied for 16th in the country with 4 sacks through Week 5. Members of the national media have taken notice, including draft guru Todd McShay of ESPN.

McShay recently updated his draft rankings and Verse slots in at number 29. Here’s his analysis:

“Verse has been a big riser in the 2023 class after transferring in from Albany, piling up four sacks and nine pressures through four games. He has great suddenness and closing burst off the edge, and I’ve been really impressed with his nose for the ball and relentless motor. He was dominant in a September win over LSU, getting two sacks and six pressures.”

Going from FCS to 1st round pick in the NFL Draft is a huge leap, but that goes to show how impressive Verse has been to this point. Keep in mind, Verse is only a sophomore, so he will have the option to return to Tallahassee if he chooses.

No doubt, Jared Verse has opened some eyes this season.
