Jared Verse is returning to Florida State in 2023.

Verse was projected to be a first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Instead, he will return to Tallahassee for a second season with the Seminoles.

Here’s his announcement:

“We’re not done yet. See y’all in 2023,” Verse said in the video.

Coach Mike Norvell acknowledged Verse’s decision shortly after it became public:

This is a surprising — but very welcome — development for Florida State. Verse was arguably FSU’s top defensive player this season and one of the best pass rushers in the country.

In his first year after transferring from Albany, Verse recorded 17 tackles for loss and 9 sacks in 12 games. He had huge performances in some of FSU’s biggest games of the year. He picked 8.5 tackles for loss against LSU, Wake Forest, Miami and Oklahoma.

Verse will join a defensive line that is loaded in 2023. The Noles also return key players like Fabien Lovett and Derrick McLendon. FSU has been aggressive in the portal and has commitments from multiple defensive linemen already including Darrell Jackson and Braden Fiske.

Verse was first-team All-ACC in 2022 and just missed out on Defensive Player of the Year honors.
