Mike Norvell is in full support of Florida State’s plans to face Georgia Tech in Ireland in 2024.

On Wednesday afternoon, the ACC announced plans for FSU to face the Yellow Jackets at Aviva Stadium in August of 2024. The game was previously scheduled to take place at Georgia Tech.

This will be the 1st game in Florida State football history to take place outside of the United States.

Norvell said he’s “excited” about the opportunity for everyone in the program to make the trip to Ireland.

“I am so excited for our student-athletes, coaches, staff, administration and fans for this opportunity. When this idea was first presented to me, I was immediately intrigued by a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the people in our program,” Norvell said in a statement. “The way the 2024 season lays out with a third open date, the trip made sense from a football perspective as well. Very few people have the chance to travel to a different continent and experience another culture, much less take an entire team, so I am appreciative of everyone’s hard work and support to make this game happen.”

Florida State is expected to face Georgia Tech during Week 0. The Noles will have an unusual schedule in 2024 as they’re set to play 3 nonconference games during the month of November.

Florida State athletic director Michael Alford also released a statement on the game. Alford said FSU’s trip will reinforce its presence as a “global brand.”

“Florida State is a global brand, and this game further enforces that,” Alford said in a statement. “This game allows us to provide an unmatched athletic and cultural experience for our student-athletes while representing Florida State on a global stage. I am looking forward to seeing our fans in Dublin while also making new fans across the Atlantic. We are appreciative of all the efforts that have already gone into the planning of this game and are excited for what is to come over the next year and a half.”

Florida State is 15-11-1 all-time against Georgia Tech.
