Florida State needed a pair of clutch free throws to get past Miami on Tuesday night.

Senior guard RayQuan Evans delivered.

Evans hit two shots from the charity stripe with 0.8 seconds remaining to give FSU its eighth straight win over the Hurricanes. The loss was Miami’s first of the year in conference play.

Here’s the final moment with Evans at the line:

Evans finished the game with 11 points. He was one of three FSU players to score in double figures, joining Matthew Cleveland (15 points) and Anthony Polite (12 points).

This win was crucial for Florida State’s NCAA Tournament chances. The Seminoles don’t have an impressive nonconference résumé, so stacking wins in ACC play will be imperative if they hope to earn an at-large berth.

Miami entered this game with a 5-0 record in ACC play and was on the cusp of being ranked in the top 25. The Hurricanes won at Duke over the weekend to take sole possession of first place in the conference.

But now, it’s Florida State who is climbing up the ranks. The Seminoles are now 3-2 in conference play and have plenty of potential résumé boosters remaining on their schedule.

Florida State faces Syracuse on the road on Saturday.
