Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims will be entering the transfer portal, he announced on Sunday afternoon.

Sims made that announcement on Twitter. The decision comes just one day after Georgia Tech’s season ended in a loss to Georgia.

“After much prayer and discussions with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal,” Sims wrote. “It was not an easy decision, however, I believe it is the right decision for me at this point in my career.”

Sims hasn’t played due to injury since Georgia Tech’s loss to Virginia back on Oct. 20.

His Georgia Tech career ends after three seasons with the Yellow Jackets. He threw for 4,464 yards, 30 touchdowns and 23 interceptions while at Georgia Tech. He’s expected to be a highly-recruited quarterback in the portal this offseason.

Sims will have tow years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

The Yellow Jackets will presumably still have Zach Pyron and Zach Gibson on the roster for 2023. They could also pursue another quarterback in the portal.

Georgia Tech is expected to hire its next head coach in the coming days.
