Louisville basketball has already lost a key member of Kenny Payne’s 1st recruiting class.

According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, forward Devin Ree has entered the transfer portal. Ree was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2022.

Ree was the No. 85 overall player and the No. 21 small forward in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He signed in April of 2022, well after Payne had officially taken over as Louisville’s head coach.

Ree attended Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. He previously attended Terry High School in Mississippi. He originally signed with LSU but backed off of that commitment after Will Wade was let go.

What this means for Louisville

Louisville is coming off of a highly-disappointing season and could be undergoing a major roster shakeup this offseason.

As true freshman at Louisville, Ree struggled to carve out a consistent role despite the Cardinals’ struggles. He appeared in just 16 games and averaged just over 4 minutes per contest. He scored a career-high 5 points against Maryland back on Nov. 29.

Louisville currently has 4 players committed in the class of 2023. Overall, the class ranks No. 12 nationally per 247Sports Composite rankings. Payne and his staff could also be aggressive in adding players via the transfer portal this offseason.
