Louisville got its first victory of the season on Friday night, upsetting UCF 20-14 in Orlando.

Malik Cunningham was solid, throwing for 201 yards and rushing for 121 yards. He also scored one touchdown on the ground.

However, Louisville’s defense stole the show. After letting up a UCF touchdown on the opening drive, the Cardinals’ defense was dominant.

UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee finished the game 16-of-34 for 131 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. UCF’s top running back, Isaiah Bowser, averaged just 3.5 yards per carry.

Louisville’s defense got stops on its final 10 drives of the game. Overall, the Golden Knights averaged just 4.7 yards per play. Senior defensive back Kenderick Duncan led the team with 13 total tackles.

While it wasn’t perfect — offensively at least — it was a strong showing for a Louisville team that got blown out by Syracuse in Week 1. The Cardinals desperately needed a win ahead of hosting 2-0 Florida State in Week 3.

Louisville will again play on Friday night next week. The Cardinals face FSU at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 16.
