NC State’s secondary got a big boost on Tuesday with the commitment of Old Dominion transfer Robert Kennedy.

Kennedy will join the Wolf Pack as an experienced defensive back, having most recently played for Old Dominion. The DB announced his transfer destination and commitment on Tuesday with a post on Twitter that stated he was “running with the pack.”

As a two-star freshman recruit in 2019, Kennedy fielded offers from 11 different schools, including Marshall and UT Martin before choosing Lackawanna Community College. While leading Lackawanna to the 2019 NJCAA National Championship, Kennedy racked up 34 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one recovery.

Kennedy started all 11 games at safety for Old Dominion this season, amassing 52 tackles, 1 interception, 6 pass breakups. The safety also recovered a botched field goal attempt for a 25-yard touchdown in a win against Virginia Tech in Week 1.

NC State will face Maryland in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl later this month.
