North Carolina fans have been waiting patiently for the last couple weeks for a potential commitment for 5-star forward GG Jackson.

On Friday evening, Jackson locked in a timeline for his commitment. He told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello that he’ll “100%” be announcing some time next week.

North Carolina is the favorite to land Jackson when he does announce next week. Last week, Armando Bacot took his turn at trying to recruit the 5-star forward.

Jackson is currently in the class of 2023. However, there’s been speculation that he may re-classify and join the Tar Heels next season. Listed at 6-foot-9, he’d be a natural replacement for the now-graduated Brady Manek at power forward.

Jackson is currently ranked as the No. 8 player in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 player from the state of South Carolina.

If Jackson does join UNC’s 2022 recruiting class, it would be a loaded first group for coach Hubert Davis. The class already includes 3 top-100 players: Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington and Tyler Nickel.
