Corey Gaynor is set to return to North Carolina for the 2023 season.

Gaynor, a center, could have left after the 2022 season but he decided to return for 1 more season. North Carolina head coach Mack Brown announced Gaynor’s return to the program on Monday. The 2023 season will be his final season of college football.

The 2022 season was Gaynor’s 1st season at North Carolina. Before North Carolina, he spent 5 seasons at Miami from 2017 to 2021. In his final season at Miami, Gaynor played in the first 3 games of the season before he suffered a season-ending injury. Gaynor entered the transfer portal at the end of the 2021 regular season and transferred to North Carolina in December 2021.

He ended his time at Miami with 41 games played. In 2019 and 2020, Gaynor managed to start every game for Miami across those 2 seasons. He was unable to finish his collegiate career at Miami and decided to remain in the ACC when he transferred to North Carolina.

Gaynor managed to help UNC’s offensive line in the 2022 season. He helped North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns this season. Omarion Hampton, Elijah Green, and Maye each had over 400 rushing yards in 2022. The 2023 season will be Gaynor’s 7th season of college football.

North Carolina ended the season with a 9-5 record.
