North Carolina freshman quarterback Drake Maye is having a great start to the 2022 college football season.

Through the first three games of his collegiate career, Maye has completed 74% of his passes, accounted for 11 touchdowns and 930 yards, and only thrown for one interception.

With those numbers, he joins an elite group of quarterbacks to accomplish that feat in the Power 5 era: Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Florida’s Kyle Trask, Texas’ Sam Ehlinger, Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph and Texas Tech’s Nic Shimonek.

That’s according to research from ESPN’s David Hale:

Maye was a former 4-star prospect in the 2021 national recruiting class. Maye was the ninth-rated quarterback and the third-rated prospect from the state of North Carolina, according to 247Sports Composite.

Maye was battling sophomore Jacolby Criswell for the starting quarterback job after the graduation of Sam Howell. Through the first three games of the 2022 season, Maye has completed 72-of-97 of his passes for 930 yards, 11 touchdowns, 1 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 190.1.

UNC has an off week this Saturday but will host Notre Dame in Week 4.
