North Carolina received updated bowl projections from ESPN following the regular season finale.

North Carolina finished the regular season with a 9-3 record following a 30-27 overtime loss to NC State on Friday. While the loss did not impact North Carolina’s standing in the ACC Championship Game, it did hurt the program’s chances of reaching a New Year’s Six bowl.

ESPN college football writers Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach revised their weekly bowl projections for North Carolina. Bonagura’s projection has North Carolina vs. Texas Tech in the Cheez-It Bowl. Schlabach is projecting that North Carolina will play Oregon in the Holiday Bowl.

The projections indicated that North Carolina will likely fall to Clemson in the conference championship on Saturday. If North Carolina is able to beat Clemson, the Tar Heels will be headed to the Orange Bowl.

The loss to NC State was a crushing loss that prevented North Carolina from winning 10 games before the postseason. North Carolina’s last 10-win season came in 2015. The Tar Heels will need to win 1 of the next 2 games to reach 10 wins in 2022.

North Carolina will take on Clemson in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
