North Carolina baseball’s season came to a close Sunday afternoon at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-5. The Tar Heels and Hawkeyes battled it out of 13 innings in Sunday’s elimination game.

With the win, Iowa advances to face the winner’s bracket top trump, No. 14 national seed Indiana State. of course, the Hawkeyes would have to beat the Sycamores twice to advance to the Super Regionals.

The Tar Heels showed plenty of fight. Down, 5-2 in the 8th, Dylan King came up with a 2-out, 2-run double to bring the Heels within 1. A solo home run from Mac Horvath tied the game at 5, necessitating extra innings.

An RBI triple from Iowa’s Michael Seegers gave the Hawkeyes the go-ahead run in the 13th inning. UNC then failed to score the tying run in the bottom half of the inning. They finish their season with a 36-24 record, the 3rd team to fall in the Terra Haute regional.
