North Carolina commit GG Jackson is the new top player in the country for the 2023 cycle.

That’s according to updated rankings from 247Sports, which were released on Thursday morning. Jackson was previously the No. 9 player in this class.

Jackson, a South Carolina native, committed to North Carolina on April 27. He chose the Tar Heels over programs like Duke, South Carolina and Auburn, amongst others.

Listed at 6-foot-9, Jackson projects as a power forward who is an excellent shooter from distance. He should fit seamlessly into UNC’s stretch 4 role in Hubert Davis’ system.

If Jackson signs with North Carolina and retains the top spot in the national rankings, he’d be the first No. 1 overall player to pick UNC since Harrison Barnes in 2010.

North Carolina also has a commitment from 5-star guard Simeon Wilcher, who is at No. 20 overall in 247Sports’ latest rankings. He was previously ranked No. 19.

Davis and his staff — along with Jackson and Wilcher — are also heavily recruiting 5-star Matas Buzelis. He’s the No. 7 overall player in this class, per 247Sports.
