North Carolina remained in Joe Lunardi’s Field of 64 in his latest bracket projection, which was released on Friday morning.

Lunardi has the Tar Heels as a No. 11 seed. They would face Iowa in the first round, according to this projection, with a potential meeting vs. Tennessee in the round of 32.

It’s worth noting North Carolina and Tennessee have already played this season. The Vols won 89-72 on a neutral floor.

While this isn’t the ideal scenario for UNC, it would mean it avoids competing in a play-in game in Dayton. Right now, Lunardi has Loyola Chicago, San Fransisco, Indiana and Memphis behind UNC on the bubble. Those four teams would meet in Dayton for a chance to enter the Field of 64.

UNC has won back-to-back games vs. Virginia Tech and Louisville. The victory over the Hokies was especially important, as it gave UNC its first Quad 1 win of the season.

North Carolina has three games remaining — vs. NC State, Syracuse and Duke. The Tar Heels have already defeated NC State this season, but that was in Chapel Hill. They haven’t played Syracuse yet this season.

Tipoff vs. NC State is at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
