Notre Dame fans, media react to Drew Pyne’s rough 1st half in spring game

Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne struggled in the first half of the Fighting Irish’s spring game on Saturday afternoon.

He threw 2 early interceptions and would have had another if not for a defensive penalty that waved off the play.

Here’s video of one of his interceptions:

Pyne played quarterback for both the Blue and Gold teams in the first half. He’s currently in a battle with Tyler Buchner for the starting job, but Buchner missed this game with an ankle injury.

Pyne is in his third season at Notre Dame, but has played sparingly. Last season, he completed 15-of-30 passes for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s a former 4-star recruit from New Canaan, Connecticut.

He did finish the first half with a pair of strong drives, including a touchdown pass to walk-on Andrew Yanoshak. Still, it was mostly a disappointing half for someone who is fighting to be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback.

Here’s some of the reaction to Pyne’s day:
