Notre Dame fans, media react to Drew Pyne's rough 1st half in spring game
Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne struggled in the first half of the Fighting Irish’s spring game on Saturday afternoon.
He threw 2 early interceptions and would have had another if not for a defensive penalty that waved off the play.
Here’s video of one of his interceptions:

Pyne played quarterback for both the Blue and Gold teams in the first half. He’s currently in a battle with Tyler Buchner for the starting job, but Buchner missed this game with an ankle injury.
Pyne is in his third season at Notre Dame, but has played sparingly. Last season, he completed 15-of-30 passes for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s a former 4-star recruit from New Canaan, Connecticut.
He did finish the first half with a pair of strong drives, including a touchdown pass to walk-on Andrew Yanoshak. Still, it was mostly a disappointing half for someone who is fighting to be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback.
Here’s some of the reaction to Pyne’s day:
Drew Pyne ain’t it lol https://t.co/jp7IFFaY00

Drew Pyne…….yikes.

We have points. Blake Grupe hits a 36-yard FG for Blue after its offense sputters following Jordan Botelho’s INT.
Lot of throws in those last two series Drew Pyne will want back. DT Gabriel Rubio with a good read on the trick play and some third-down pressure.

Today was supposed to be Drew Pyne’s chance to prove himself. Woof.

My takes on the spring game so far:
1: Jadarian Price is going to be good.
2: Jalen Thomas is going to be good.
3: Our defense is going to be good.
4. Drew Pyne is not the guy.— Lo (@LoAdonnis) April 23, 2022
Drew Pyne is just not that guy. Yikes

Marist Liufau picks off Drew Pyne this time.
The QB play thus far has been very, very bad.
I really wish Tyler Buchner was healthy for this game. It’s so hard to evaluate the offense without him playing.

Drew Pyne has not been good when pressured today, and he's been pressured quite a bit.
He's picked off for the second time this afternoon by Marist Liufau on a screen intended for Michael Mayer.
Mayer had zero chance of catching the ball lofted right over his head.

The rumors of Drew Pyne having a rough spring certainly have been revealed thus far. I would be shocked if TB12 is not under center for the first snap in Columbus.

Drew Pyne looks really bad right now

Watching Notre Dame spring game, IMO if the competition between QB Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner is close in fall camp…that is not a good sign.

If ND receivers could catch passes between their legs, Drew Pyne would win the job.
