Louisville star QB Malik Cunningham announces plans to return for 2022 season
Malik Cunningham isn’t going anywhere.
He announced his intention to return to the Cardinals for the 2022 season on Friday morning.

Next season will be Cunningham’s fourth as a full time starter. As a junior, he set career highs in passing yards (2,734), rushing yards (968) and rushing touchdowns (19). He also has 18 passing touchdowns this season, which is four away from a career-best. He’ll have an opportunity to set a new benchmark there during Louisville’s bowl game.
This was a tough season at times for the Cardinals, who lost multiple close games early in the year. They lost by 3 to Wake Forest and by 1 to Virginia — results that kept the Cardinals from seriously competing in the ACC Atlantic this season.
However, Louisville played better in November. The Cardinals blew out Duke and Syracuse and came within a few yards of upsetting Clemson.
Cunningham figures to be one of the best players in the ACC once again next season and could be a preseason Player of the Year candidate.
