Baseball America helped Wake Forest make history to start the season.

It is the first time in the 44-year history of the Baseball America rankings that Wake has started the season ranked No. 1. The ACC also has 6 teams in the ranking, including 3 in the top 10 with Clemson and Virginia at No. 9 and No. 10.

Clemson finished last season with a 44-19 overall record, its best mark since 2018, and its first ACC title since 2016. The Tigers this season are led by sophomore outfielder Cam Cannarella, who is a preseason All-American.

The Cavaliers reached the College World Series for the second time in 3 seasons last year and finished 2023 as a consensus top-8 team. For Virginia, All-America shortstop Griff O’Ferrall and Third Team All-ACC honoree Ethan Anderson are among the top returners for the Cavs.

There is plenty to like about the Demon Deacons’ roster. As Baseball America noted, the Demon Deacons, who were the No. 1 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the College World Series for the first time since 1955, return a decorated roster featuring 2023 All-Americans Josh Hartle and Nick Kurtz.

Wake last year went 54-17 and added more high-level talent through the transfer portal, including Chase Burns and Seaver King, potential first-round picks.
