Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was chastised for his level of play as a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, he’s being praised for his level of consistency 3 weeks into the 2022 season.

Lawrence was named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Jacksonville’s 38-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Thanks to Lawerence’s development under new head coach Doug Pederson, plus offensive coordinator Prez Taylor, the Jaguars currently lead the AFC South with a 2-1 record.

Jacksonville’s offense has clicked this season with Lawerence at the helm. In Sunday’s win, Lawrence completed 71.8% of his throws for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns. He finished with a 115.5 passer rating and averaged 6.7 yards per attempt. Meanwhile, Jacksonville’s offensive line didn’t allow a sack and only 3 pressures on the afternoon.

After being selected No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lawerence struggled with consistency as a rookie. He completed 59.6% of his throws and averaged roughly 6.0 yards per pass attempt. He tossed more interceptions (17) than touchdowns (12) and finished with a passer rating of 71.9.

This offseason, Jacksonville invested substantial money into the offense to elevate Lawrence’s play, signing receivers such as Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. The results have been promising early in 2022. Through 3 games, Lawrence is completing 69.4% of his throws for 772 yards and has thrown 6 touchdowns against 1 interception.

A 3-year starter for the Tigers, Lawerence posted a 38-2 record at Clemson, with both losses coming in the College Football Playoff. He threw for 10,098 yards and 90 touchdowns against 17 interceptions while completing 66.6% of his passes.
