Duke is still in the mix for a major defensive prospect in Maxwell Roy, one of the top defensive linemen in the country and a key target from Pennsylvania for the 2025 recruiting class.

On Wednesday, Roy released his top six list with a Big Ten-heavy group featuring Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Rutgers and the Big Ten-bound Ducks. The Blue Devils were the only other program included.

Roy is listed at 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds out of St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia:

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Roy is a 4-star prospect and the 17th DL in the country for the 2025 recruiting class. He’s also the No. 2 player out of Pennsylvania and a top 150 player (No. 146) regardless of position.

Manny Diaz has stepped in to lead Duke and will try to keep the positive momentum created by Mike Elko rolling into 2024. The Blue Devils currently hold 3 commitments for the class of 2025, including Cameron Smith, a 4-star linebacker out of Philadelphia.

No matter where he winds up, Roy has the physical makeup to be a difference-maker at the next level. Here’s a look at what he brings to the table via his Hudl highlights:
