DJ Uiagalelei was listed amongst the nation’s most intriguing newcomers in a new story by ESPN on Friday.

The World Wide Leader had its panel of college football experts name the true freshmen and transfers they are most excited to watch in 2024. Uiagalelei, who led Oregon State to a strong season in 2023, made the cut as he makes his return to the ACC.

Uiagalelei previously served as Clemson’s starting quarterback, and will now be leading FSU as the Tigers and Noles enter next season as top contenders for the ACC crown in 2024.

Here’s some analysis on Uiagalelei’s upcoming campaign from ESPN’s Andrea Adelson:

It feels strange even typing DJU and Florida State in the same sentence, considering the path he has traveled to get to Tallahassee. One of the most highly touted quarterbacks in the nation out of high school, Uiagalelei started his career at Clemson, where he struggled for two seasons as the starter, then sought a fresh start at Oregon State. After a solid 2023 season, Uiagalelei decided to transfer once again — this time to Clemson’s ACC nemesis. Will he handle the pressure that comes with the spotlight at Florida State any better than he did at Clemson? Time will tell. Mark an X on Oct. 5 in your calendar; that’s the date Clemson comes to Doak Campbell Stadium.

Uiagalelei will get his shot at revenge against Clemson on Oct. 5 in Tallahassee. It’s also possible Florida State and Clemson could meet again in the ACC Championship Game in 2024.

Last season, Florida State won the ACC for the first time since 2014. The Noles lost numerous key players from last year’s team, but Uiagalelei leads a transfer class that ranks in the top 5 nationally this offseason, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
