New Florida State running back Trey Benson was excellent in his first spring game showcase in Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon.

Benson rushed for 77 yards and 1 touchdown on just 7 carries. The Oregon transfer figures to be a major part of Florida State’s offense this season.

“I’m excited for Trey and we’ve talked about it since he got here in January,” Norvell said in the postgame press conference. “Just what I believe he’s going to bring to the (running back) room. And he’s still growing.

“I think you got a preview of the explosiveness that he (has).”

Here’s one of his best runs of the day:

Benson didn’t see the field much at Oregon due to injury. He carried the ball just 6 times for 22 yards and 1 touchdown last season. But now fully healthy, he figures to be one of the more impactful players in the ACC in 2022.

Florida State also got a big spring game performance from Albany transfer defensive lineman Jared Verse.

FSU’s influx of talent this offseason should help the Seminoles get back to competing for ACC crowns.

The Seminoles open the season with Duquesne on Aug. 27.
