Florida State received a blow to its defensive line room for 2024 on Monday, as redshirt junior Malcolm Ray announced that he will enter the transfer portal. He will have 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Here’s Ray’s post on X from Monday evening:

Ray, a member of the Seminoles roster for 5 seasons, was a 3-star recruit from the class of 2019. He redshirted as a true freshman before playing 6 times in 2020, making 2 tackles.

In 2021, Ray’s role grew with the defensive line as he received his first 2 collegiate starts. Through 10 games, he made 24 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks. He played in 13 games in 2022 and started 5, totaling 15 stops and 2.0 sacks. In 2023, he again played in every game, totaling 18 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

Ray is the latest portal entrant for the Seminoles, who have now seen 11 players announce their intention to do so since it opened on Dec. 4. That doens’t include wide receiver Winston Wright Jr., a wide receiver who entered the portal for the 2nd time in as many seasons after transferring from West Virginia.
