Miami is still in the hunt for the top-ranked running back in the 2024 class.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy tailback Jerrick Gibson is down to 5 schools. The 5-star prospect announced his finalists on Tuesday, including the Hurricanes alongside Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.

Gibson currently has official visits scheduled to 4 of his finalists, with Florida being the lone school yet to get on the calendar for an official. (He was in Gainesville for the Gators’ spring game.) He’ll be in Coral Gables on June 9.

The Hurricanes are believed to be one of the favorites to land Gibson, with Texas being the other.

Gibson is a 5-foot-10, 200-pound runner. He’s ranked as the No. 1 running back in the country and the No. 26 overall recruit, per the industry-generated 247 Composite.

As a sophomore, Gibson played for Jonesboro (Ga.) Mundy’s Mill where he earned Region 3-AAAAA first-team honors and ran for 626 yards and 4 touchdowns in 7 games.

He transferred to IMG ahead of his junior season and totaled 608 rushing yards and 8 scores on 83 carries.

In each of his last 2 varsity seasons, Gibson has been above 6 yards per carry. He’s also a track star, posting an 11.33 100m time as a freshman in the spring of 2021.

The Hurricanes have 7 known commitments in the 2024 class, but coach Mario Cristobal has the program positioned to possibly make a run at a top-10 or even top-5 class when it’s all said and done. Getting Gibson to join the group would certainly help that goal.

Miami currently holds a verbal pledge from 3-star Hollywood (Fla.) South Broward running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey.
