Miami’s depth at the LB took a hit on Monday as former 4-star prospect Avery Huff announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.

The fourth-year sophomore turned down offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi State to join the Hurricanes in 2019. Huff thanked his Miami coaches and teammates in his transfer announcement made on Twitter on Monday, but stated that it was time to move on.

In his redshirt freshman season, Huff played in 9 games, mostly on special teams, and finished the regular season with two tackles. The LB had the first tackle of his career in  a road win over a top-20 Louisville team.

Prior to his commitment to Miami, Huff played high school ball at St. Thomas Aquinas, where he was rated the No. 12 inside linebacker and the No. 30 player in Florida, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Miami has now had more than a dozen players enter the transfer portal this cycle. The Canes are expected to be aggressive in adding players via the portal as well.
