Miami could be losing one of its top defensive commits in the class of 2023.

According to a report from CanesCounty, 4-star safety signee Antione Jackson has asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent. Jackson signed with the Hurricanes back during the Early Signing Period.

Per the report, Jackson’s decision is related to Kevin Steele’s departure from the program. Steele left Miami to take the same position at Alabama earlier this month.

If Jackson does leave Miami, he would be a big loss for the Canes. He was a 4-star prospect from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale.

Jackson is ranked as the No. 241 overall player and the No. 19 safety in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also 1 of just 3 defensive backs who signed with Miami in the class of 2023. The Canes also lost 5-star cornerback Cormani McClain to Colorado late in the cycle.

For now, Miami’s 2023 recruiting class ranks No. 7 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The Canes also rank No. 1 in the ACC.
