Drake Maye’s Heisman Trophy odds continue to rise.

Maye made a big-time statement with his five touchdown, 388-yard performance against Pittsburgh on Saturday night in front of a national audience.

The result? A drastic change in Maye’s Heisman Trophy odds.

Maye is now +2694 to win the award, according to an aggregation of odds from numerous sports books. He was +4300 to win the Heisman entering Week 9.

The redshirt freshman is still not amongst the favorites to win the award — Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker (+102) and Ohio State’s CJ Stroud (+166) own the top spots. But he is making enough progress to make a serious run at the honor if he has a big November.

Maye’s stats more than stand up to what Hooker and Stroud have accomplished so far this season. All three passers have a 71% completion percentage but Maye leads the trio with 2,671 yards. His 29 touchdown passes are tied with Stroud amongst the three, while Hooker has 21 passing scores.

The key will be North Carolina’s team success. The Tar Heels are 7-1 on the season, but they still have tough games remaining on their schedule. Most notably is potential top 25 matchups with Wake Forest in Week 11 and NC State in Week 13.

If UNC takes care of business, it could have an 11-1 record when it faces Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. That would provide a massive stage for Maye to make his final case for the Heisman Trophy.
