Brian Kelly is reportedly trying to bring Notre Dame coordinators Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees with him to LSU.

According to The Athletic’s Pete Sampson, Kelly contacted Freeman on Monday. He also indicated that Freeman could become the highest paid defensive coordinator in the country.

The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna is reporting that LSU is also “making a run” at Rees.

Rees, of course, is a former Notre Dame quarterback. He was a multi-year starter for the Fighting Irish from 2010-13 — Kelly’s first years on the job in South Bend. He’s been on Notre Dame’s staff since 2017 and is in his second season as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Freeman is in his first year as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator after moving from Cincinnati. He is considered to be a top candidate to replace Kelly on a permanent basis.

If Kelly is successful in luring Freeman and Rees to Baton Rogue, it would mean even more devastation for Notre Dame’s chances in a potential College Football Playoff run.
