USC is still looking for a head coach, and ESPN’s College GameDay crew has a suggestion.

Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly.

Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard both suggested Kelly, which earned an endorsement from Rece Davis. Kelly has been at Notre Dame since 2010 and has won more games with the Fighting Irish than any other coach in program history.

“I think he’s taken Notre Dame as far as he can take them,” Howard said on Saturday. Here’s their full discussion:

Kelly has won 10 games in five straight seasons and has made multiple College Football Playoff appearances, but he’s yet to bring a National Championship to South Bend.

It’s worth noting Kelly hasn’t been seriously connected to the USC job prior to this segment on Saturday morning. Kelly doesn’t have any connections to California or the west coast. He was born in Massachusetts and has spent nearly his entire coaching career in the Midwest.

Notre Dame still has a shot at this year’s College Football Playoff, too. The Fighting Irish are expected to move up in the updated College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, following key losses from Oregon and Michigan State.

Notre Dame finishes off its 2021 regular season vs. Stanford on Saturday.
