Notre Dame set the football world ablaze with their shocking loss to Marshall on Saturday.

The Irish struggled out of the gate, trailing Marshall 9-7 at halftime. QB Tyler Buchner completed just 50 percent of his throws for 89 yards and one interception in the first half. Buchner himself rushed for Notre Dame’s lone touchdown of the first half.

Under offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ leadership, Notre Dame has scored a meager 31 points through two games. The lack of offensive scoring has fans and analysts pointing the finger at Rees.

Notre Dame was nearly a 3-touchdown favorite over Marshall in this game. It was Notre Dame’s first-ever meeting on the gridiron with the Thundering Herd.

The win marked the first time in 19 years, and only the second time in history, that Marshall has beaten a top 10 ranked team.
