Joel Klatt is high on Notre Dame in 2023.

Klatt named his 5 most interesting transfers for the 2023 season so far, and new Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman landed at No. 2 on the list.

Klatt explained his reasoning for why he believes in Hartman and the Fighting Irish next season.

“That’s interesting to me because Notre Dame was similar to Iowa in that, last year, I felt like if they got any quality quarterback play, then they were going to be in games and possibly winning games,” Klatt said. “I think Marcus Freeman has done a heck of a job in recruiting. This is a team that I think has been built really well at the line of scrimmage, offensive line and defensive line.

“So if you can get a guy like Sam Hartman, he very well might be the best transfer quarterback of this class and could turn Notre Dame around. We saw exactly what that meant for teams last year.”

Despite a slow start, Notre Dame ended last season with a 9-4 record. It won 9 of its final 11 games of the season with backup quarterback Drew Pyne playing for the majority of that time.

Hartman is coming off of a prolific career at Wake Forest. He’s the ACC’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns with 110 and should be a significant upgrade for Notre Dame’s offense in 2023.

Hartman is joined in Klatt’s top 5 by USC receiver Dorian Singer, Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara, Oklahoma EDGE Dasan McCullough and Colorado athlete Travis Hunter.
