Marcus Freeman announces season-ending injury for Notre Dame quarterback
Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner will miss the rest of the 2022 season, the program announced on Monday.
Buchner left shoulder injury in the waning moments of Notre Dame’s loss to Marshall in Week 2. Buchner has a grade 5 AC joint sprain, according to coach Marcus Freeman.
The injury will require surgery, he announced at his Monday press conference. Freeman said the QB will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Drew Pyne will start at quarterback for the Fighting Irish. True freshman Steve Angeli is listed as Pyne’s backup on Notre Dame’s depth chart.

Buchner beat out Pyne for the starting job in fall camp, but struggled in his first two games as the Irish’s starting quarterback. He threw 2 interceptions in Notre Dame’s loss to Marshall on Saturday.
Pyne will lead Notre Dame in Week 3 as it hosts Cal. The Bears are 2-0 so far this season with wins over UNLV and UC Davis.
