There’s new predictions in the long-running Peyton Bowen recruitment saga.

Bowen is the top rated recruit in Notre Dame’s 2023 class, and committed to the Irish back in January. Although Bowen seemed steadfast in his decision after signing, he has wavered in his commitment the past few months.

A 5-star recruit, Bowen holds offers from 32 schools, including CFP contenders Michigan, Ohio State, and TCU. But, it has been Oklahoma that has held the safety’s attention recently.

According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, it’s probably not going to be good news for the Irish, as he believes the Sooners have done enough to flip Bowen:

“I think he flips. I think he’s going to Oklahoma. I think Notre Dame is fully aware of the situation. Peyton Bowen doesn’t strike me as the person who, at the last second, is going to sign with Notre Dame and then tear up the paper and sign with Oklahoma. He’s making everyone fully aware of this. I think he’s legitimately torn on what he wants to do over the long term. He’s been committed to Notre Dame forever. He absolutely loves it there.

“But he’s from Texas. Oklahoma recruits Texas incredibly well. He has an opportunity to play there incredibly earlier for Brent Venables, who didn’t have a great first season, but has clearly developed a lot of elite defensive players. I just think at this point, it’s so far down the road that if he signs with Notre Dame, it would almost be a surprise.”

Here’s video of Gorney’s analysis:

Bowen is the No. 14 overall player and the No. 2 safety in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Early Signing Period begins on Wednesday.
