Micah Shrewsberry earned a commitment from an Illinois product on Thursday. Notre Dame added to its 2024 class.

Cole Certa attends Central Catholic in Bloomington, Illinois and chose to commit to the Fighting Irish. He is an unranked shooting guard from the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite.

Certa comes in at 6-foot-4, 165 pounds.

Notre Dame was the only ACC team to extend Certa an offer. Power 5 schools like Illinois, Penn State, Northwestern, and Nebraska also showed interest in Certa.

Shrewsberry took over as the Notre Dame head coach after a successful 2022 season with Penn State. Shrewsberry led the Nittany Lions to the B1G Tournament final and their first NCAA Tournament win since 2001.

Notre Dame basketball did not have the same kind of success. The Fighting Irish ended the year at 11-21 after losing to Virginia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

After finishing the season with a losing record, Mike Brey decided to step down as the head coach of Notre Dame basketball. Brey will reportedly be coaching on the Atlanta Hawks staff in 2023.

Notre Dame fans will be hoping that Shrewsberry can reach the NCAA Tournament after a disappointing 2022 campaign.
