Notre Dame quarterback target Kenny Minchey has backed off of his commitment to Pittsburgh.

Minchey announced that news on Monday afternoon. He had been committed to the Panthers since August.

Here’s his announcement:

Notre Dame offered Minchey a scholarship back in July. The Irish are the most recent program to offer Minchey a scholarship, according to his 247Sports recruiting page.

If Notre Dame is able to get Minchey into its 2023 recruiting class, he would be a huge addition. Minchey ranks as the No. 15 quarterback in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s a 4-star prospect in this class.

Minchey is listed at 6-foot-2, 207 pounds. He attends Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn.

Notre Dame’s lack of a quarterback has long been considered a major weakness for the Irish. Aside from that position, Notre Dame has one of the best classes in the country. It currently ranks No. 3 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Early Signing Period begins in December.
