Notre Dame’s quest for an upset against No. 16 Syracuse got off to a strong start.

Brandon Joseph took the opening play from scrimmage for a pick-6 on Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader.

It was the first interception of the season for the junior safety out of College Station. Entering the game, Joseph had amassed 11 solo tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection.

Notre Dame defeated UNLV 44-21 last week to improve to 4-3 overall.

Syracuse lost its first game of the season last week against Clemson. Clemson scored the last 20 points of the game to hand Syracuse its first defeat.

Notre Dame has won the last four meetings in the matchup and lead the all-time series 7-3 against Syracuse.
