Sam Hartman is expected to take the next week to make a decision on his football future, according to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.

Hartman’s 5-year stint at Wake Forest came to an end after he entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. At this point, Hartman is reportedly deciding between transferring to another college program or declaring for the NFL Draft.

One key part of this process will be the landing spot for Hartman. Thamel reported that Hartman is looking for a college football destination that will give him an enticing offer to return for a 6th-year of college football.

Hartman was linked to Notre Dame on Tuesday morning. Here’s an excerpt from Thamel’s report:

“According to a source, Hartman is seeking a high-end situation to keep him from declaring for the NFL draft and will take a week to evaluate all his options.”

Over the course of the next week, Hartman will use that time to evaluate his options in college football and the NFL. If Hartman is unable to find the right situation in college football, he could decide to start preparing for the NFL. Notre Dame has been a reported target for Hartman in the transfer portal.

Hartman will surely have several offers from college programs throughout the country. It will be up to him to see if he wants to play 1 more season of college football.

Tyler Buchner will start at quarterback for the Fighting Irish on Friday in the Gator Bowl vs. South Carolina.
