Elizabeth Kitley delivered in the clutch on Sunday afternoon against NC State.

Kitley made a game-winner to hand the Wolfpack their first loss of the season. She caught a perfect in-bounds pass and was able to rise above a NC State defender to bank in a layup from just outside the restricted area.

Kitley’s shot fell in with just 0.9 seconds remaining. NC State, without a timeout, was unable to get off a shot before the buzzer. Here’s a replay of the final sequence:

Kitley finished the game with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Georgia Amoore also had a big game, contributing 21 points and 7 assists.

This victory is huge for Virginia Tech’s NCAA Tournament résumé. The Hokies avoid what would have been their 3rd loss of the season already. Instead, they pick up a signature win over a NC State program that’s expected to contend for the national championship again this year.

Virginia Tech is coming off of its first-ever trip to the Final Four in 2023. With Kitley and Amoore back for this season, the Hokies will be contenders to make it back to that stage again this spring.
