Virginia Tech landed a transfer commitment from former Oklahoma DL Kelvin Gilliam not long after its bowl win over Tulane.

Gilliam spent the last 3 seasons with the Sooners before announcing his decision to head to Blacksburg on Thursday. Gilliam appeared in 19 games for the Sooners during his time in Norman. He accounted for 10 total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Oklahoma used Gilliam as a backup defensive tackle this season before missing 6 games due to injury.

The Hokies commit has some ties to the state of Virginia. He was a former 4-star edge rusher in the 2021 class out of Highland Springs (Va.) High. The 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 7 edge rusher and No. 3 Virginia prospect.

Brent Pry has signees coming in at edge rusher and on the defensive line in the 2024 class. The Hokies have 3-star edge rushers Gerard Johnson and Deric Dandy on the way. On the defensive line, there’s 3-star signees Emmett Laws and Andrew Hanchuk in the Hokies’ 2024 class. Former Duke DL Aeneas Peebles will be joining Gilliam at Virginia Tech as well.

The Hokies capped off with 2023 campaign with a big 41-20 win over Tulane in the Military Bowl to end the year at 7-6. Wednesday was the 1st bowl win of the Brent Pry era at Virginia Tech.
