John Wolford update: Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach shares latest on QB who left preseason game on stretcher

John Wolford had Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans concerned Saturday, as he had to leave the team’s preseason game against the New York Jets on a stretcher.

Wolford injured his neck when he was hit in the head late in the 3rd quarter.

Wolford was able to give fans and teammates a thumbs up as he left the game on a stretcher.

According to Bucs coach Todd Bowles, Wolford is feeling better and all test results were encouraging. Greg Auman shared Bowles’ comments on Sunday.

Wolford played at Wake Forest from 2014-to-2017. He was not selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, but has played multiple seasons of professional football. Wolford initially landed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent, but did not make the roster.

In 2019, Wolford played for the Arizona Hotshots in the Alliance of American Football spring league. He was the AAF’s passing touchdowns leader in the 2019 games played before the league ceased operations.

Wolford’s standout performance in the AAF led to a new opportunity with the Los Angeles Rams. He spent the past 4 seasons with the Rams, signing with the Bucs in the offseason.
