Tom Walter explains how Wake Forest is handling its historic No. 1 ranking
Thanks to a series win against Boston College, and LSU losing 2 games to Auburn, Wake Forest has surpassed the Tigers to take the No. 1 spot in the college baseball rankings. It is the first time in school history that the Demon Deacons have taken the top ranking.
Long-time head coach Tom Walter knows there’s work to be done if the team wants to stay on top. But, Walters also knows that it’s a historical moment, and wants his players to experience it. So he had some words of wisdom that he shared with his players during an interview with SiriusXM.
“We’ve been very transparent about it. We’ve told them to enjoy the moment. We told them, the only thing we’re guaranteed here the rest of this year is that we’re going to have 2 more weekends against Florida State and Virginia Tech. We’re going to have the conference tournament which we’ve already qualified for, and even if we lost out, we would probably make the NCAA Tournament. So the only thing we’re guaranteed is these next 4 weekends. We need to enjoy these moments.”
Despite being ranked #1 in the country, @WakeBaseball head coach Tom Walter knows his team still has a lot of work to do. #GoDeacs
