Wake Forest hosts Elon in its season opener on Thursday. The Demon Deacons will be without some players due to injury, according to a report from Deacons Illustrated’s Connor O’Neill.

Wide receiver A.K. Kelly won’t be playing. Kelly is a redshirt freshman out of Greenville, South Carolina.

Offensive lineman Kyland Armstrong, defensive linemen Jaylen Hudson and Isaiah Chaney, receiver Jaydn Girard, tight end Michael Frogge, and linebacker Chase Jones will also not be playing.

There will be a new starting quarterback for Wake Forest this season. Sam Hartman is now at Notre Dame after transferring during the offseason.

Hartman led Wake Forest to an eight-win season in 2022 in his final season with the team.

Mitch Griffis will be leading the Demon Deacons against Elon. Wake Forest is 11-0-1 all-time against the Phoenix.

Fans will see what the offense will look like with a new man under center. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
