The following – written with orange-and-green-colored glasses – reflects what could happen if a majority of Miami Hurricanes players reach their potential and stay healthy.

It’s not likely.

But it could happen.

The Hurricanes are returning their star quarterback, their leading rusher, their top 2 receivers and an elite set of safeties.

Coach Mario Cristobal, who went 12-2 and 10-3 during his final 2 full seasons at Oregon, is looking to get Miami back on track.

Here then are your 10 bold Hurricanes predictions:

1: Miami will reach ACC title game

Bold enough for ya? The Hurricanes, who finished 5-7 last year, turn it around in Year 2 under Cristobal. The Canes lose to Clemson in the title game, but this still is a huge step forward for the program, which has been wayward for nearly all of the past 2 decades.

2: Hurricanes shock Florida State

FSU has won 2 straight in this rivalry, but Miami has prevailed in 4 of the past 6 contests. The last time the teams met in Tallahassee, FSU escaped with a 31-28 victory. But Miami won in its 2 previous trips to the Florida capital. These Hurricanes won’t be intimidated.

3: Offensive line keys turnaround

Left guard Javion Cohen, who is a projected 1st-round pick in 2024, earned 2nd-team All-SEC honors at Alabama last season before joining the Canes. Center Matt Lee arrives from UCF, where he started 36 games. Talented left tackle Jalen Rivers, who has made 10 starts for Miami the past 2 years, finally is healthy, and he is mauling defenders. They should form the nucleus of this unit.

4: Canes boast top safety duo

Ball-hawking Kamren Kinchens made 1st-team All-America last season as voted by The Associated Press. He led Miami in tackles, and he had 6 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 1 touchdown. Hard-hitting James Williams is a man-child at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds. Last year, he ranked 2nd on the team in tackles and tied for 2nd in passes defended. He has the look of a 1st-round pick after this his 3rd year if he can put it all together.

5: Bain Jr. will claim ACC Defensive Rookie of Year

Rueben Bain, a freshman from Miami Central, is a wrecking ball of a pass rusher. A 4-star recruit, Bain has bulked up to 6-3 and 275 pounds. He had an astonishing 77 sacks during his prep career. As a senior, he had 48.5 tackles for losses and 29.5 sacks. He’s a special talent with the will to improve, and his position coach is Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor.

6: Parrish Jr. will become 1,000-yard rusher

Not since Mark Walton in 2016 has Miami had a 1,000-yard runner. Henry Parrish Jr. could be that guy this year. For his 3-year career at Mississippi and Miami, he has rushed for 1,432 yards, 9 touchdowns and a 4.7 average. He’s elusive and tough, and he figures to get support from Nebraska transfer Ajay Allen, freshman Mark Fletcher Jr. and injury-prone Donald Chaney Jr.

7: Freshman class will provide crucial help

Besides Bain, Miami’s Class of 2023 includes projected starting right tackle Francis Mauigoa and backup Samson Okunlola. Running back Fletcher seems sure to get some run, and wide receiver Nathaniel “Ray Ray” Joseph could be a star. Other rookies likely are to emerge from the ACC’s top-ranked freshman class. Candidates include edge rushers Jayden Wayne and Collins Acheampong, cornerbacks Damari Brown and Robert Stafford and linebacker Malik Bryant.

8: Tight end production will be down

Will Mallory was drafted in the 5th round by the Indianapolis Colts, leaving Miami with major questions at tight end. Elijah Arroyo would be the starter, but he is coming off an ACL knee injury. He missed the spring, and it’s not certain if he will be 100% when the season starts. He has 10 catches in 2 years at Miami. Jaleel Skinner had 9 catches as a freshman last year, but – at 6-5 and 210 pounds – he needs to bulk up to block at the position. Arroyo and Skinner are former 4-star recruits, and they have potential. But they might lose snaps to Oregon transfer Cam McCormick, a 6-5, 260-pounder who is ready to move the pile. This is McCormick’s 8th college season, giving Miami needed maturity. But he is not much of a pass-catching threat with 18 receptions in 22 games. The wild card is 6-6, 240-pound freshman Riley Williams.

9: Restrepo will have big year

With Mallory gone, slot receiver Xavier Restrepo should get more targets, assuming he stays healthy. During the past 2 years, Restrepo has caught 45 passes for 4 TDs in 19 games. Colbie Young, who broke out last season with 32 catches and 5 touchdowns, is Miami’s tall outside threat at 6-5. The veteran newcomer to watch is Tyler Harrell, who is Miami’s fastest player. He previously was part of the programs at Louisville and Alabama. Watch out for freshman Joseph, a player Cristobal has raved about all fall.

10: Van Dyke will re-establish NFL value

After getting named ACC Freshman of the Year in 2021, Tyler Van Dyke slipped last season. In 2021, he averaged 9.8 yards per attempt and 25 touchdown passes to just 6 interceptions. Last year, playing through a shoulder injury, he slipped to 7.2 yards per attempt and missing 3 games. He had just 10 TD passes and was picked off 5 times. At 6-4 and 225 pounds, TVD has NFL size. Now he just needs a big year to rebuild his value.
