The mental fortitude of Miami is being put into question by a national media analyst. The No. 25 Hurricanes are coming off a disastrous 23-20 defeat against visiting Georgia Tech.

Miami had the game locked up and just had to use the victory formation for the win. Instead, Mario Cristobal went with a running play that resulted with a fumble and led to the ensuing game-winning touchdown.

Miami has a big challenge ahead at No. 12 North Carolina this weekend and CBS Sports’ Aaron Taylor doesn’t think the Hurricanes are up for the task. Taylor theorizes that the loss to the Yellow Jackets will still have too painful of a sting to overcome in Chapel Hill.

“Touchdown Van Dyke has turned into Turnover Van Dyke. He had 3 last week. I’m inclined to agree with you, Rick. It just seems like this was such a gut punch,” Taylor said. “It would be easy to write Miami off. They’re going to come out. But if things don’t go well for them early on, you’re gon see them wrap it up.”

Taylor adds that North Carolina will have added motivation to reduce Miami’s chances of winning the division.

“This is a UNC team that is as explosive as they always are but they have an above average defense this year. I think they smell blood,” Taylor said. “I think they realize with Tez Walker coming back, who was sprinkled in a little bit, this is the week that they explode. It’s a great way for them to stick the knife in a Miami team that had big aspirations this year.”

Miami at North Carolina is slated for a 7:30 p.m. EST kickoff and will be televised on ABC.
