Miami is still heavily involved in the recruitment of 4-star defensive lineman Rueben Bain.

Bain, a Miami native, is also considering top programs like Alabama, Florida State and Auburn. The Canes have long been considered the favorite to land Bain, but that could be changing.

In a breakdown of the top uncommitted prospects nationally, On3’s director of recruiting Chad Simmons expressed caution when describing Miami’s position in Bain’s recruitment.

Here’s Simmons’ analysis:

“I don’t know if there is a true leader for Rueben Bain. There has always been a lot of buzz with Miami since he lives there and has family connections there. He’s a huge target for head coach Mario Cristobal‘s staff. Miami may be tough to beat, but Bain seems open to playing college football outside his home state. Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Louisville are all involved in his recruitment, along with other programs. I think Bain will take his time this season. Things may change going forward, but I would say his top three schools right now are Miami, Alabama and Auburn.“

Bain is a major target for Miami moving forward. He attends Miami Central High School and is the No. 89 overall prospect in the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s also the No. 10 defensive lineman in this class and the No. 19 player from the state of Florida. He’s listed at 6-foot-2, 250 pounds.

On3 also surveyed recruiting experts from its Miami and Auburn sites. CaneSports’ Gary Ferman said he believes Miami is still the favorite. AuburnLive’s Keith Niebuhr said he thinks Auburn is “solid position” within Bain’s recruitment.

The Early Signing Period begins in December.
