Tyler Van Dyke is looking to make a comeback after being hurt twice last season and missing multiple games for the Hurricanes.

The QB’s first opportunity to impress came as Miami tested the waters with their spring game on Friday, and impress he did. In his 2o23 debut, Van Dyke went 13/19 for 184 yards and 1 TD in the first half before the game switched to non-tackling.

Van Dyke also hit Jacolby George for this touchdown:

This was also Van Dyke’s 1st action with new Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.

Van Dyke fell into a rhythm early in the game, finding one of his favorite receivers in Xavier Restrepo, his roommate and a oft-cited target. Restrepo cemented his position as a top slot receiver as he had three catches for 69 yards in the first half of the game, including a 23-yard shovel pass from Van Dyke. Restrepo, like Van Dyke, is returning this season after missing significant time last season with an injury.

While recovering last season, ‘Canes backup QB Jake Garcia subbed for the missing Van Dyke. In Friday’s spring game, reinforcement came in the form of second-team quarterback Jacurri Brown, who started the scrimmage with four incomplete passes and finished 5 of 11 for 55 yards.
