Notre Dame fans, media react to Sam Hartman's nightmare game at Louisville
Notre Dame fell to Louisville 33-20 on Saturday night, giving the Fighting Irish their second loss of the season.
It was a nightmare performance for quarterback Sam Hartman, who turned it over 4 times in the loss. He entered Saturday night’s game without an interception in a Notre Dame uniform. But he threw three of them vs. the Cardinals — one on Notre Dame’s first drive and two in the fourth quarter.
Hartman also lost a fumble in each half. Dating back to last season’s meeting with Louisville as a member of Wake Forest, Hartman has accounted for 11 total turnovers against the Cardinals in just 6 quarters of football.
Hartman completed 22-of-38 passes for just 254 yards and 12 touchdowns in the loss. Louisville’s stout defensive front also sacked Hartman 5 times on the night and was constantly giving pressure.
The result is devastating for Notre Dame, who now has virtually no chance of reaching the College Football Playoff in 2023. This is Notre Dame’s second loss of the year after falling to Ohio State back in Week 4.
Here’s some of the reaction from fans and media to Notre Dame’s big loss:
Sam Hartman sees ghosts in Louisville. No other explanation.

Notre Dame’s about to be 5-2 and still have USC and Clemson to go on the schedule…
The Irish might have another 8-4 season. Unbelievable.
You bring in a quarterback like Sam Hartman and completely waste the opportunity. Enraging.

Sam Hartman, when he is old and gray writing his memoir, will write of Louisville’s L&N Stadium: “It was a house of horrors. It was the place where my top 10 dreams were eviscerated and I was left only with the nightmares and the chills that ran up and down my spine.”

Don’t be sad Notre Dame fans! Sam Hartman has cut his turnovers from the last time he played Louisville in half!
Bummer it’s just from 6 to 3

Louisville should retire Sam Hartman’s Jersey.
