Notre Dame will start the season at No. 5 in the country in the coaches poll, which was released on Monday morning.

The Fighting Irish trail only Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson in the preseason poll. Michigan, Texas A&M, Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor round out the top-10.

Notre Dame is expected to be one of the nation’s best teams again in 2022. The Irish have won 10+ games in 5 consecutive seasons.

Quarterback is the biggest question mark Notre Dame still has to answer as fall camp begins. Tyler Buchner is the favorite to win the job over Drew Pyne. Buchner told reporters on Sunday that he’s begun to embrace his leadership role within the team.

Notre Dame will face No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus in Week 1. Notre Dame also has No. 4 Clemson and No. 15 USC on its schedule. North Carolina and BYU did not make the top-25, but both programs received votes.
