Tyler Buchner announced where he decided to transfer to on social media Thursday. The former Notre Dame QB is heading south.

Buchner will be following former Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees to Alabama. Rees was hired by the Crimson Tide earlier this offseason to replace Bill O’Brien. O’Brien is now in a similar role with the New England Patriots.

Buchner was grateful for his time in South Bend and is looking forward to his time in Tuscaloosa.

“My time at Notre Dame allowed me to grow and develop as a football player while building lifelong friendships that were forged under fire. Sometimes life brings opportunities that are beyond anything you can imagine and that is what has happened today. I have committed to play football for the University of Alabama and head coach Nick Saban. I know this is the best decision for my future.”

Buchner played in the first two games of the 2022 season before suffering a shoulder injury against Marshall. Buchner did not play another game for the Fighting Irish until Dec. 30 against South Carolina in the Gator Bowl.

Buchner led Notre Dame to a 45-38 victory where he had 273 yards passing with 5 total touchdowns. Buchner will be joining an Alabama QB room with the likes of Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson.
